Current Affairs & GK, Economy, Govt appoints SBI MD Swaminathan Janakiraman as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

 According to a directive seen by Reuters, the Union government nominated Swaminathan Janakiraman as the Reserve Bank of India's deputy governor on Tuesday. The appointment would be effective for three years from the day of appointment. Mahesh Kumar Jain's term as managing director of the State Bank of India expires on June 22. Janakiraman will take his place.


Who is Mr. Swaminathan Janakiraman?


He is a banker with expertise in retail and corporate banking, international banking, trade finance, correspondent banking and FI products, digital banking, and transaction banking products, according to Swaminathan Janakiraman's updated LinkedIn page. Currently, he is in charge of the Corporate Banking and Subsidiaries vertical at SBI. I was in charge of the Bank's Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance, and Stressed Assets verticals in my most recent job.


Janakiraman oversaw budgeting and performance monitoring, capital planning, and investor relations for the SBI's finance department. As the head of the vertical for digital banking, he has participated in SBI's digital transformation journey. 


He has been managing the Corporate Banking and Subsidiaries divisions as a full-time director on the board of the State Bank of India. Prior to taking on this position, He oversaw the Bank's Assurance activities for the Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance, and Stressed Assets verticals. served on the boards of Yes Bank, Jio Payments Bank, NPCI, and Bank of Bhutan, an SBI JV, as a nominee director on behalf of SBI. As the vertical's head for subsidiaries, the bank currently serves as the nominated director on a number of non-banking companies in the areas of mutual funds, insurance, investment banking, broking, pension funds, and private equity.
